The Role

The events arm of the FTChinese, FTC Events, organises high-level strategic events for the international business and financial community. From conferences and seminars to smaller customised business forums for clients including national governments, multilateral institutions, multinationals, investment banks, accountancy firms, etc.

FTC Events is expanding its team in China and is seeking an experienced sponsorship sales manager to secure revenue for a wide range of projects, from conferences to bespoke dinners. The position is based in Shanghai, but will require occasional travel to various other China cities depending on the location of an event and/or possible sales leads.

Your Profile

• Develop sales leads and close events deals in Shanghai and south China.
• Deliver sales revenue and seek to exceed the targets set by your supervisor.
• Initiate and maintain contact with full variety of clients and prospects.
• Conduct sales presentations both in person and by telephone.
• Work with the rest of the FTC Events team as well as with other FTC departments to maximise the opportunities for conferences sales.
• Maintain detailed records of all sale contacts – accepts and declines.
• Follow the sales process through closing, preparing agreement to arranging invoicing.
• Work across a number of events simultaneously.
• Liaise with other colleagues at FTC Events team to ensure sponsor satisfaction over the running and promotion of every event, including branding exposure on collateral, complimentary attendees, etc.
• Write sponsorship pack for each event in liaison with event editor and BD manager/event in Beijing.
• Work with Business Development manager of the event team in Beijing as a team to oversee the creation and implementation of series of events under the Financial Times and FTChinese brands (conferences, seminars, forums, etc), with a focus on event organizing, speaker inviting, internal source coordinating and implementing.

• A university degree
• Experience in sponsorship sales, preferably for a reputable conferences organiser or an institution active in the arrangement of events (3 years minimum is desirable)
• Proactive sales approach combined with a pleasant, team-focused attitude; cool under pressure; conscientious; strong attention to detail; strong with numbers
• Strong negotiating skills
• Strong presentation skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills, ability to work with other teams
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment
• An excellent command of both spoken and written English, Mandarin is essential
• Familiarity with Word, Excel, Powerpoint
• Uses the internet confidently for research
