Brief summary of role
Financial Times is recruiting a lawyer to join its China region under the well-established legal team (mainly in London) as Legal Counsel.
This role offers the right individual a rare opportunity to join a friendly, collegiate and professional team working in a global and highly respected media organisation. The successful candidate will take care of all FTs legal interest in China, and will be the primary point of contact for the legal service of FTs entities in China including BRAC and NYIF, so to serve businesses under them mainly as FTChinese.com, plus advertising sales of FT Newspaper, FT.com and The Banker, the research business of China Confidential, NYIF, as well as assisting other businesses in China of Financial Times with various projects from time to time.
BRAC, the Financial Times China legal entity was incorporated 11 years ago in Beijing, with a Shanghai Branch up to now. FTChinese.com is the main business in BRAC and is a respectable financial website of in China, enjoys a strong reputation within the business and is seen by its internal clients as a genuine business partner.
In this role you will:
You will be required to provide legal advice to FTs businesses in China including but not limited to the departments of FTChinese.com including advertising, Conference, and marketing teams etc., advertising sales of FT.com, FT Newspaper, research of China Confidential and supporting functions of BRAC on legal risk of their operation plus on the laws and contracts relating to their areas of business. You will also look into corporate regulatory filings, content copyright issue in China market plus support day to day contract review of NYIF which is another business of Financial Times in China. In addition, you will support other members of the legal team from time to time on various day-to-day matters and special projects.
You will report into a senior Counsel within the legal team in London, while working closely with business leaders and Finance team in China.
You will bring to the role....
--Min 5 years of solid working experience in drafting, reviewing, signing commercial contracts for China region and providing legal advice to senior business leaders
--Demonstrated track record of understanding of China corporate legal affairs, corporate regulatory filings, digital advertising business, conference and content syndication, and laws relating to the running of competitions and operations
--Work related exposure to data protection, trademark and copyright laws in various digital platforms
--Confident, articulate, credible and commercially-minded, with excellent interpersonal skills to deal with internal and external stakeholders
--Strong planning and organising skill to meet heavy demands of this busy in-house role
-Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills
-Native Chinese and business level English
--Lawyer qualification with a law related bachelor degree or above
--Previous in-house experience, knowledge of labour law and some experience of advising clients in China
--Working experience of advertising industries in other jurisdictions, such as Asia, CEMEA or the US
